I run into a lot of articles about parenting, and many of them say similar things, but as I was reading this article this morning, it struck a different chord. In working on the IGNITE program, I've been working on finding creative ways to help people transform their mindset to one that is a foundation for personal growth and well-being. As I was reading this article, 6 Phrases a Child Psychologist Is Begging Parents and Grandparents To Start Saying ASAP, in Parade, I realized how powerful it would be if we started by saying these things to ourselves.
For one reason or another, many of us didn't hear these things growing up. These gaps in nurturing can snowball. We became adults who are highly critical of ourselves, or are always seeking external validation. None of us is perfect, or had a perfect childhood, but when we can identify something that we'd like to change, we have to try. We deserve to try.
Your children are watching you, and healing is infectious.
Here is How we can implement these 6 phrases from a child psychologist into positive self-talk for personal growth and well-being.
In the article, Dr. Crystal Saldi, Psy.D, lists these key phrases.
I love you.
It's OK to feel that way.
I'm sorry.
It's OK to make mistakes. That's how you learn.
I'm so proud of you.
I believe in you.
We can adjust these phrases to create positive self-talk to change our mindsets, and develop a foundation for personal growth and well-being.
I love me.
It's OK that I feel this way.
I'm sorry.
It's OK that I made a mistake. Now I know better.
I'm proud of who I am, and how far I've come.
I believe in myself.
It seems overly simplistic, but there are many ways we as humans overcomplicate things. Start here. Create a rant to start your day off on the right foot. Learn and grow and be well. You deserve it. If you do have children, you are breaking a generational curse when you heal. Your children are watching you, and healing is infectious.
Love and Light,
Maria
